Structures for habits

Pron + used to+infinitive

Use:

• Habits/ repeated actions in the past  we no longer do

eg.

+ I used to go to work by metro
- I didn't use to go to work by metro
? Did you use to go to work by metro?

• States in the past that are no longer true

eg. I used to live in Russia


Would:

Use:

• It means the same that Pron +used to + inf., but it adds a "nostalgic" point of view. It's a stylistic decision to use this structure. It's not possible with states: *I would have blond hair.

eg. I would drink coffe with him in the mornings

Usually:

Use:

• Habits/ repeated actions in past, present or future.

eg. I usually go to the work by metro / I ususally went to work by metro/ I will usually go to work by metro
