DO VS. MAKE
DO:
To talk about work, jobs, tasks with no physical object produced). eg. To do homework.
Always with the words ended in "thing": Thing, nothing, something, anything...
A verb that we use to replace a verb when the meaning is obvious: Eg. To do the dishes (instead of to wash).
Auxiliary verb (Do you...?)
In general, "do" is an action.
MAKE:
In general, "make" implies a result, a physical product.
Producing, creating, constructing or building something new (a cake, a presentation) My own theory is that that final product will be enjoyed for someone else. It is not just for me, it is something to share.
To talk about the origin of a product (Made in Brazil).
To talk about action an reaction: You make me happy.
Plans and decisions are always with "make".
Sounds and communications: to make a call, top make a sound, to promise, to make a speech, to make a comment...
In general, writtings are not a final product (except a story).
